Some of you have been asking yourself the question “Well, if Fauci wasn’t guilty, why would he need a preemptory pardon?!?!” I assume it’s in a whiny tone of voice.
The question you should be asking yourself is, why did we as Americans elect as president a petty, vengeful man who all but promised to drag people through showy trials to distract from his own criminality in order to hype up a fanbase he plans to screw over? It would probably take years and waste time and resources because there is no factual basis to the prosecution, just a thirst for harassment. He takes aim at people who have already repaid their debts (Hunter Biden, who I talked about elsewhere) or people who dedicated their life to service for Americans (Dr. Anthony Fauci).
As far back as 2022, Elon Musk popularized “prosecute Fauci” as a MAGA rallying cry with this attempt at a clever Tweet.

Anyone with half a brain realizes that’s not funny or clever, but that’s pretty classic for Musk’s attempts at humor and what appeals to Trump fans. But more importantly, anyone who understands science and how anything works knows that there is no factual basis on which to prosecute Dr. Fauci. Just as he had for AIDS and Ebola and other diseases before that, Dr. Fauci dedicated years of his life (specifically 2020-2024) to protecting Americans from COVID-19 at its peak. He worked tirelessly, and his memoir, “On Call” is an excellent read that discusses those years and the struggle.

Dr. Fauci made mistakes, such as his initial guidance on masks, which he acknowledges, but he never lied - he adjusted guidance based on our rapidly-growing and changing understanding of COVID, sometimes changing week to week.
Where people like Joe Rogan and Mel Gibson are still trying to make ivermectin and monoclonal antibodies happen long after we understood and proved the monoclonal antibodies don’t work for newer variants and that ivermectin is still only good for certain parasite infections which do not include COVID-19, Dr. Fauci worked to innovate and test all those hypotheses to find proof and not just “vibes.”
While some folks want to make him a scapegoat because they still don’t want to accept the effect that COVID-19 has (or should have) on how we approach our world and the world itself, and they hope that prosecuting him will mean we can just ignore the last four years and millions of deaths, the fact is that Dr. Fauci is a hero. He deserves to live his retirement out in peace. He does not deserve to be harassed by the craven, carping orange man who moved back into the White House today (who, by the way, immediately decided to pardon actual criminals who committed insurrection against our country in 2021 because he was a sore loser).
In fact, don’t think of it as a preemptive pardon. Think of it as a restraining order against Trump and his cronies - something a known sexual predator would probably understand.
Update: Since I first published this on Substack, Trump pardoned all the J6ers and removed Dr. Fauci's security detail. So maybe he's legally protected, but now his physical safety can be threatened. Trump even said he would not feel bad if harm befell Dr. Fauci. This is the act of a petty, vengeful man, and I hope that Dr. Fauci is able to stay safe.
